During the first and the second session of the Conference good practices for the promotion of cycling in European and Greek cities have been presented (Apoulia Prefecture, Italy / Gdansk Municipality, Poland / Graz Municipality, Austria / Padova Municipality, Italy / Karditsa and Thessaloniki regions, Greece).
In the conference session titled “Cycling tourism. An opportunity for national and regional development” examples of business operating concerning cycling tourism have been presented. Giorgos Farfaras, representative of “ANTIGONE-Information and Documentation Center on Racism, Ecology, Peace and Non Violence” presented the opportunities and the challenges that occurred during the generation of the European cyclists friendly services network. Mr Farfaras also presented the objectives and the progress of the South East Europe “Sustainable mobility along the newest EuroVelo route: The Iron Curtain Trail” project concerning EuroVelo 13 cycling route.
In particular, for what it concerns the providing of services, mr Farfaras presented the creation of the cyclists friendly network “Cyclists Welcome Hellas”, the compulsory and the optional criteria for accommodation and food services participation in the network. Closing his presentation, he referred to the importance of the existence of quality services along a EuroVelo cycling route.
